The Enforcement Directorate of Ahmedabad stated that Shailesh Babulal Bhatt lost money investing in BitConnect Coin (BCC), a cryptocurrency associated with the now-defunct platform BitConnect, labeled a global Ponzi scheme. Allegedly, Bhatt and accomplices abducted two BitConnect employees, demanding 2,091 Bitcoin, 11,000 Litecoin, and $1.7 million for their release. Bhatt confessed to paying his partners $34 million for their involvement in the crime, using the funds to acquire assets. Arrested under the Prevention of Money-Laundering Act, Bhatt remains in custody. The investigation, initiated based on reports from the State Crime Investigation Department, has already recovered properties worth $52 million. BitConnect, which collapsed in 2018, defrauded thousands globally, with its founder facing legal actions in the US and India.
