1 min. readMontenegro authorities have apprehended Roman Ziemian, co-founder of the alleged crypto scam FutureNet, accused of embezzling approximately $21 million in a sophisticated crypto fraud operation. Ziemian was discovered using a fake identity in Podgorica, Montenegro's capital, by a specialized police unit. Arrest warrants from South Korea and Poland, citing charges of fraud, money laundering, and theft, have been issued against him. Facing potential life imprisonment in South Korea, Ziemian is in custody as the Police Directorate seized suspected devices and items linked to his illicit activities. Ziemian's extradition will be determined by Podgorica's High Court. FutureNet, founded by Ziemian and Stephan Morgenstern in 2018, promoted itself as a multilevel marketing venture with the FuturoCoin (FTO) crypto token. The collapse of FutureNet and warnings of a potential pyramid scheme by Polish authorities have raised concerns. Investigations into FutureNet's fraudulent activities have intensified, with parallels drawn to other crypto-related fraud cases.
