Empowering Users in the Metaverse

The concept of the metaverse, popularized by Big Tech and science fiction, has not yet fully materialized as envisioned. Despite the lack of widespread adoption for business meetings and experiences akin to Ready Player One, a team of Italian scientists has introduced a groundbreaking study. Their research, titled “Metaverse & Human Digital Twin: Digital Identity, Biometrics, and Privacy in the Future Virtual Worlds,” emphasizes the importance of interoperability and data ownership in creating a digital replica of reality. In the metaverse, user activities generate vast amounts of data that can offer insights into their identity and behaviors. The researchers advocate for users to have control over their data in decentralized storage, enabling them to selectively share it for compensation. This shift towards user empowerment could revolutionize how data is utilized in the metaverse, fostering a more secure and private digital environment.
