1 min. readMeta Platforms, led by Mark Zuckerberg, is developing a new line of sleek mixed-reality glasses known as 'Puffin' to replace their bulkier predecessors. These glasses, set to launch by 2027, will be smaller than Meta's existing Quest headsets and will not require handheld controllers, allowing users to control them through hand gestures. Unlike the expensive Apple Vision Pro, the 'Puffin' wearables are expected to be more affordable and compact, appealing to a wider audience. These mixed-reality glasses blend the real world with virtual reality, enabling users to interact with both digital and real-world objects. Mark Zuckerberg envisions these glasses as smart glasses with holographic displays, cameras, microphones, and speakers, bridging the gap between existing products and bulky VR headsets. Despite ongoing losses, Meta's Reality Labs division is optimistic about decreasing operating losses with upcoming product releases.
