1 min. readA political action committee (PAC) that received donations from various crypto industry players, including Ripple, has allocated $850,000 to back Republican John Deaton in a Massachusetts primary. The Commonwealth Unity Fund Super PAC disclosed spending approximately $450,000 on a direct mail campaign for Deaton on Aug. 7 and over $500,000 on a media campaign on Aug. 6. This followed previous expenditures of over $300,000 on media placements in July. Deaton, vying for a Senate seat from Massachusetts in 2025, enjoys backing from the crypto sector. Notably, Ripple pledged $1 million to the Commonwealth Unity Fund to support Deaton's bid to replace Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren. Additionally, Gemini co-founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss contributed $6,600 each to Deaton's campaign in April, with plans for a further $1 million donation. The upcoming Massachusetts primary on Sept. 3 is poised to witness significant crypto industry funding influence in US elections.
